What you should know about Holden Street TheatreS
The season was designed to launch directors and actors into the Adelaide Scene and promote their careers. Buying Tickets through Holden Street theaters means the fees go back to the venue to promote our shows and artists all year round. But the commission will only investigate cases that ended in death, the identities of the accused will be suppressed, and details of exactly what punishment the indicted will confront are. Pauline only has to hear his voice from the next room to be sure the stranger is one of her torturers. This, she tells her husband, is the beginning case in his inquiry. We will put the audience in the Jury room with us and present each patron a connection to one of the 12 Jurors, borne said. So they will be more involved than ordinary in this absorbing look inner the hearts of men who have a pensive duty to find the truth. Beth’s need to dig around in the past, remembering happier times, also brings out some things that should, perhaps, have superior been forgotten. Fiona Evans' telling tale of a lusty weekend between a cradle snatching teacher and her testosterone tipped teen lover in a lovelorn seaside hotel room is heart wrenching stuff. Almost like pieces of furniture, the audience shares a small bedroom with the two cast members. Emily Bradford and Sebastian Freeman thrust and parry, play and analyze through the emotional gamut and one realizes that one is so enmeshed in their predicament that one has become more flyonthewall than audience. Scarborough is a speedy and enraged immersion into the lives of a young couple with a secret as they discard a dirty weekend together at a quintessentially naff English hotel in the seaside town of Scarborough. Fiona Evans' funny, thought provoking and award winning play went down a storm at the Edinburgh Fringe, and looks set to do every bit as healthy here. Over the course of the weekend, through a series of vignettes, the tensions, power struggles and insecurities of Lauren (played by Emily Bradford) and Dan (played by Sebastian Freeman) are played out. However, the set could be any cheap hotel or motel room, anywhere. The direction and choreography is stiff in this kind of space, the actors busy difficult to seamlessly not bump or step into the audience as they dance, cuddle and struggle their way from scene to scene. Director Martha Lott has done a huge job to bring out the emotional tension in this piece. For the loaded nature of the relationship between the two characters (audiences may make their own judgments) the play pulls no angelic punches, leaving the audience to question for themselves. This is a piece which will depart you thinking, and whose emotional force will not exit you easily. Stand midst the peeling wallpaper and find somewhere to sit on the unlatching furniture whilst this couple appreciate their weekend away. Fiona Evans' tough, brief writing, brilliantly capturing the shifting emotions underlying the characters' relationship. There are lots of attractive girls around, but it doesn’t need a woman for life. He wants a wealthy woman and he will find one like that! Two theater performances in one evening for communities from Past Yugoslavia.
