ASPCA South Australia was formed in 1875 to hinder animal cruelty, to protect animals, and to protection for animals. Our Mission is to engage the community at all levels to embrace the Five Freedoms for Animals. We are empathetic, caring and considerate. We are heroic and determined to stand by our principles. We are ethical, reputable and transparent with ourselves, our supporters and the community. We are the driving force to motivate and inspire positive change in animal welfare. We work as a team and encourage partnerships to maximize outcomes. At ASPCA South Australia, we do all we can to bear the superior possible outcomes for the animals in our care. With the encourage of the community we aim to set the benchmark for animal welfare organizations across Australia. As part of our ongoing commitment to saving more lives, we continue to proactively seek innovative ways to care for every animal who needs help. We have three sources of incoming animals, two of which are unique to ASPCA South Australia: These animals are either surrendered by owners who can no longer concern for them, or are brought in as stray or wandering animals by councils or members of the public (includes feral cats). These animals are injured, sick or orphaned animals reported to us and collected by our Rescue Officers for imperative care. Sadly, many of these animals are so severely sick or injured that euthanasia is the most humane outcome. Every effort is made to treat and manage medical conditions and behavourial problems. With continued support from the community, ASPCA South Australia is focusing on three core areas to further improve animal outcomes: Expanding our foster care network to cater for greater numbers of animals who do not cope in a shelter environment. Proactive adoption and re homing initiatives. No Mum Left Behind, maintaining the bond between mum and kitten. Proactive media and social media exposure of adoption animals. Forging working relationships with honorable rescue groups. Volunteer photography program to encourage animals for adoption. Ongoing veterinary and training promote to all fresh pet owners. Whilst we are delighted that we are achieving more for the animals in our care, ASPCA South Australia will remain to strive for fresh ways to improve our animal outcomes.
