SASMOA was registered in 1973 and is run by salaried doctors for salaried doctors. The Council consists of 12 members representing the four main groups which comprise the membership, each group elects 3 councilors. The only Union organization party to the Award and Enterprise Agreement. SASMOA is affiliated with ASMOF SA providing you with membership to both organizations for the one fee. Whilst student members have full access to the website, membership status is that of Associate member and as such, do not have access to the Association's governance and election processes.
